1. Paint Color Comes Last.
This might seem counterproductive to paint a room after you move in but if you are purchasing new furniture you might end up hurting yourself in the long term. There are SO MANY colors to choose from that you can never really make the right unless everything is in the room. Lighting play a huge role in color choice as well. Chances are what looks good in a windowless powder room won’t work in your large open concept kitchen.

1. Paint Color Comes Last.
The homeowners wanted to update the home’s original single pane windows and cedar siding for better comfort and aesthetics. After several meetings the scope of work drastically changed. The project included new roof, entry doors, new front stoop/sidewalk and portico, overhead garage doors and rear deck replacement. The original plan was to keep the red siding, white trim and white windows. After being shown the several color options the homeowners chose the warm look of James Hardie Countrylane Red siding and Cobblestone trim. Prefinished White interior/Sand Beige exterior Beechworth windows with grills between the glass in the top sash were chosen to keep with the cottage theme of the house while making them easier to clean.
The front entry door was widened two inches and a Therma-Tru Smooth fiberglass Craftsman door was installed to […]

After a hailstorm, the owners wanted to utilize the insurance money to update their home while replacing the damaged materials. Erdmann Exterior Designs helped the homeowners unify the look of their new windows by installing Navajo Beige trim to match the Navajo Beige siding. The cedar color roof was replaced with CertainTeed ‘Driftwood’ shingles to balance out the orange in the brick.
On the rear of the house, the white aluminum roof on the bay window was replaced with the same CertainTeed ‘Driftwood’ architectural shingle as the same CertainTeed ‘Driftwood’ architectural shingle.

While developing the plan with […]

If you are interested in some Beechworth Windows one of our sales representatives can schedule an appointment with the mobile studio and you […]
This Naperville transformation is clear from the outside. But there were a few things that had to be done on the inside to prepare. First we air sealed the attic and installed new insulation. This helps with energy efficiency and air quality. For this type of project we used blown in cellulose. Cellulose is denser than fiberglass making it a better insulator. If you are looking for more information on insulating your home for winter check out our blog post about Energy Efficiency Tips for Winter. Looking to get your home ready for winter? Some other behind the scene improvements we made are replacing all of plywood for structural integrity. We also resealed all of the windows adding to the energy efficiency. There was also […]
Having a leaky roof are more than just annoying. Ignoring it won’t make it go away either. The National Association of Home Builders suggests getting your roof checked every three years even though a good roof should last a few decades. These are some of the problems a leaky roof can cause. Each one worse than the last…
This is the least of your worries. Discoloration happens when water leaks into the rafters and beams. The water carries chemicals from the roofing products that cause the wood to develop a darker color. In some cases it might look red. If the leak is small, the discoloration can still spread but no other real damage will occur.
Mold and Mildew
Water means mold. When water gets trapped in small spaces the humidity isn’t able […]
This home had aluminum siding and wanted to completely eliminate all of it. The clients wanted to update the look and make the home look like it belongs in the upscale country club neighborhood in which it resides. Homeowners debated on using LP SmartSide but once they heard the benefits of James Hardie, the choice was clear. Initially they wanted a beige siding to match the brick, they agreed to trust Erdmann’s judgement on the Iron Gray siding and Arctic White trim. In order to continue with the upscale look the homeowners were looking for we used James Hardie Custom window trim with header details on the lower Windows as well as on the dormers.
The addition of Blackwatch Green raised panel shutters completed the Cape Cod look. They opted for the 15/71 inch […]
