Are you ready to commemorate America’s Independence? No matter if you are celebrating alone, with family or your entire neighborhood, the Fourth of July means it is time to kick back, relax, barbecue, wear the most patriotic red, white, and blue outfit you own and, of course, head out to see some great Independence Day fireworks.

You don’t need to travel far to find a stunning fireworks display within a few miles of home. Here are some of the best spots in the nearby Northwest Suburbs to catch a great display and celebrate America’s birthday.

1. Arlington Heights

Today kicks off Frontier Days at Recreation Park in Arlington Heights, which includes a free concert series, food vendors, carnival rides and one of the largest Fourth of July Parades in the northwest suburbs. The fireworks display takes place at Arlington Heights racetrack at dusk on Sunday, July 1st. Adults are $22 and children $5.

2. Palatine

Hometown Fest, Palatine’s Fourth of July Celebration, starts today in Downtown Palatine through July 4th. Enjoy professional fireworks, entertainment, food vendors, parade, carnival, business expo and craft fair, Family Day and other family-friendly activities. The fireworks,  complete with patriotic music, is brought to you by the Palatine Jaycees on July 3rd at dusk.

3. Buffalo Grove

The annual Fourth of July tradition continues in Buffalo Grove on July 4th with the Symphonic Band performing American, Patriotic, Traditional and Broadway selections in the setting of a summer Concert in the Park starting at 7 pm. Following the concert is the fireworks display starting around 9:15 pm. You can view the fireworks at Rotary Village Green or from the Buffalo Grove Golf Course.

4. Hoffman Estates

The Northwest Fourth-Fest is a four day event, from July 4th through July 8th. There is a parade, carnival rides, delicious food, a craft fair and concerts. The computerized fireworks display is on Saturday, July 7th at the Sears Centre Arena at 9:30 pm.

5. Barrington

Barrington’s Brat Tent is back this year for its Independence Day festivities. Commencing on Saturday June 30th and running through July 4th the event features food, drinks, activities and games for kids and an amazing lineup of live music. You can enjoy a fireworks display after dusk at Barrington High School.

6. Glenview

There is an Independence Day Parade that travels down Harlem Avenue, or you can head to Gallery Park for an evening concert beginning at 7 pm featuring music from the 100-piece North Shore Concert Band. The fireworks celebration is at Gallery Park on July 4th at dusk.

7. Itasca

The village of Itasca puts on one of the largest fireworks displays outside of Navy Pier. The show is a whopping 25-minutes long! The celebration begins at 4 pm with picnic dishes, beer from the Itasca Brewing Company, and live music. It’s located at Hamilton Lakes Office Campus on July 4th with fireworks starting at 9:45 pm.

8. Skokie

Skokie’s Fourth of July festivities include a 3D fireworks display where the first 10,000 people to arrive receive special glasses that add an extra dimension to the show. To start off the celebration, there is a parade at noon down Oakton Street. Then at 6:30 pm the Goo Roos and Mike & Joe perform live music before the rockets burst in the midair at dusk at Niles West High School.

9. Rosemont

On July 3rd, Rosemont’s Rockin in the Park free summer concert series is a hit with Elvis tribute artist Jay Dupuis at Parkway Bank Park. Not only do the concert series feature music by classic cover bands starting at 7 pm, but there are food and beverage tents on the park’s lawn and a musical fireworks display after the concert is over.

10. Mundelein

Mundelein Community Days started yesterday and is held through July 1st at Kracklauer Park. Celebrating the best of Mundelein, the festival includes premier musical performances, food, drinks, a car show, a carnival, a parade, fireworks and activities for kids and adults, including a 5K race. The parade will be held on Sunday, July 1st at 2 pm and later the fireworks will begin at 9:30 pm.
